Freedom 500

Hey RC racers!  This is a special announcement of a BIG fun prize race (Slash Enduro) with $450 (at least!) purse that we are adding to our Big Saturday July 5th race. Read on to learn more and register now!!

ANNOUNCING THE RC SPORTS FREEDOM 500!  The Freedom 500 is a 500-lap (yes, 500 lap) endurance RC race that will take place as the finale of our Star Spangled Special racing event on Saturday, July 5th. Teams of 3+ members will race spec 12T HCG Traxxas Slash trucks around the dirt oval, taking turns at the wheel and executing battery-change pit stops to keep the truck going. The first team to complete 500 laps will earn the glory and a $300 cash prize courtesy of RC Sports & Cash4RC!! To make it even better, track builder DJ White (Fleet Solutions) is putting up an additional $150 in cash prizes, with $100 going to the 2nd place team and $50 to third!

REGISTER YOUR TEAM TODAY!  Starting order will be the registration order so the sooner you register, the further towards the front you will start.  We must have 5 registered and paid teams by July 1st in order to run this race.  Register here:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeeHzwqfokpCW2hGhmHi7iZXNI3t-N-6DTHwyHpOSqCYE3Kpg/viewform

Entry fee: entry fee is $45 per team. Entry includes a stickered spec 12T motor that will be issued the day of the race. Entry fee is separate from points race registration for the day.

SPONSORS: Sponsors wanted for this race! The more/bigger prizes the better, let’s attract a big turnout! Would love to add a sponsor for first place, increase the payout overall, and/or maybe add a tough luck award for a team that experiences a tragic breakdown (it’s bound to happen!). If you or your company would be interested in sponsoring a position and putting up some prizes for this race please reach out and we can chat ideas!

Tech rules: all cars must strictly follow RC Sports Spec Slash rules (12T summer edition).  Link to rules document can be found at https://rcsportsusa.com/.  However, eligibility will NOT be limited to non-champions like the points series is.  Also, as a special event rule, all batteries used must be 5200mah or less (And remember, 7.4 volt only).

Tech process: A tested and stickered spec 12-turn motor will be issued to each team immediately before the race. The motors must be installed directly into the vehicle and may not be broken in, serviced, or modified in any way. Fans may be installed on the motor if desired.  After motor installation all vehicles will be closely inspected and may not be modified in any way after tech inspection. The first battery used must be in place in the battery tray for tech inspection. In the event that a team melts a motor or experiences a motor malfunction, they will receive a free replacement to install, but no compensatory laps or time will be awarded.  All batteries used in the race must be installed from the tech inspection table. Batteries may be charged during the race but must be approved by the tech inspector before being put back on the inspection pit stop table.

Logistical rules: One team member must be corner marshalling at all times.  This leaves one member to drive, and one to execute battery pit stops. Mandatory driver changes will be executed at 20 minutes and 40 minutes of race time.  Each driver must run the truck for at least 20 minutes. At the 60 minute mark, any driver can take over and driver changes are unlimited for the rest of the race. There is no limitations on battery changes or repairs that can take place mid-race, except the approved motor must be used, all class rules must be followed for the entire duration, and you may not switch to a backup truck (if something fails or breaks, you can either keep running as is or fix that truck and put it back on the track).

The procedure:  Starting order for the race will be set based on team registration order (whoever registers and pays first will start in first, and so on).  For battery changes, cars may be removed from the track at any point, but must return to the track at the turn one entry point and must continue properly around the track from there.  Race announcer will call out mandatory driver changes at 20, 40, and 60 minutes.  Tech officials will monitor battery changes and marshall participation.  The race is over when the first team reaches 500 laps.
