January 26th, 2024: RC Sports first round of oval racing for Season 3 drew a massive field of entries and spectators, setting records all around with 28 racers and 66 race cars on Friday night, January 26th.  Six  drivers made their RC Sports points race debuts, including Josh Porod, Colton Roffers, Zach Stephenson, Ryan Boguski, Kevin Lund, and Dan Wicker.  Four different classes had 10+ entries and needed to be split into multiple heats, with Spec Slash having the largest field with 14 cars.  Despite the record car counts and number of races, everyone did a fantastic job being ready for their green flag and keeping the program moving, and the kids were done before 8, with the entire program being concluded by 9:30.  Here are the full results!

Auden Palm returned to racing action and swept the night in the kids Mini Stock division, taking wins in both the heat and the main.  Zach Stephenson and Oliver Juliar finished 2 and 3 both times, with only a couple laps separating them.  4th went to newcomer Colton Roffers, 5th to Parker Hawley, 6th Hendrix Uridil, and 7th Corbin Feldkamp.

Shane Thomas won Mini Turbo heat #1 with his Arrma Granite Grom, and Ben Moore narrowly edged out Mike Karl for the win in heat #2 and the Top Qualifier spot.  Brad Juliar raced his way out of the B-Main group, holding off Jason Stephenson and Travis Riesenweber for the transfer spot.  Mike Karl proved to be uncatchable in the A-Main, winning by 3 laps over defending class champion Ben Moore.  Andrew Pfluger rounded out the podium, and all 3 top finishers were driving HBX 16889A brushless trucks.  Shane Thomas and Anatolie Wiering finished 4th and 5th, followed by Brand Juliar in 6th, Josh Porod 7th, Jason Stephenson 8th, Travis Riesenweber 9th, Tim Uridil 10th, Tyler Nystrom 11th, Charlie Reed 12th

Keith Julair won the first heat in the loaded Spec Slash class, but Mike Karl earned TQ honors by winning Heat #2.  Charlie Reed once again raced his way from the B up to the A in the class for the second week in a row.  Anatole Wiering controlled the A-Main for most of the race but some unfortunate luck at the 4-minute mark dropped him from the top spot, and Mike Karl took over and led to the finish.  Anatole still held on for a super impressive second place finished, followed by Keith Juliar in the #3 spot.  Shane Thomas 4th, Brad Juliar 5th, Charlie Reed 6th, Kyle Kallies 7th, Ben Moore 8th (DNF), Dean Juliar 9th, Tyler Nystrom 10th, Collin St. Amour 11th, Sach Stephenson 12th, Andrew Pfluger & Corbin Feldkamp DNF.

The Mini Buggy class made its oval debut, and the Losi Mini B spec setup reigned supreme, as Mike Karl and Ben Moore duked it out with identical setups.  Mike won the A-Main by just 1.5 seconds over Ben.  Shane Thomas took 3rd in his WLToys short course conversion, Andrew Pfluger 4th with an Associated Reflex 14B, Tyler Nystrom 5th, Anatole Wiering 6th, and Josh Porod DNS after seeing the 1RC car was outmatched by the Mini-B’s.

Brad Juliar got the first win of the night in the fast-growing and super-competitive Supercar class, narrowly edging out Randy Kempen while sporting his brother’s championship body from Season 2.  Ben Moore topped Shane Thomas by just 0.43 seconds to win Heat #2 and the TQ position driving his wedding present Team Associated Apex2.  Mike Karl successfully raced his way out of the B-Main, topping Anatole Wiering by just one lap despite Anatole’s incredible LED light setup.  Shane Thomas led a few laps early in the A-Main before Ben snuck into the lead, which he held with clean consistent laps all race long. Keith Julair and Shane Thomas showed a little more speed, and pushed Ben to the finish, but he held on for his long-awaited first Supercar race win by just 3 tenths of a second over defending champion Keith Juliar!  Shane Thomas took 3rd, Randy Kempen 4th, and Dean Julair scored a top-5.  Kevin Lund took 6th, followed by Brad Juliar 7th (DNF), Mike Karl 8th (DNF), Anatole Wiering 9th, Dan Wicker 10th, Ryan Boguski 11th, Kyla Kallies 12th, Dallas Court 13th (DNS).

Finally, in the premier Super Ten (formerly Super Oval) class, Kyle Kallies scored the first ever Super 10 win with a 4wd model, taking the W in Heat #1 with his Senton formerly owned by Mike Karl.  Newcomer Josh Porod ran an awesome race and many laps, but had to settle for second, just one second back.  Defending champion Randy Kempen started strong with a Heat Race #2 victory and earned the top-qualifier spot.  Josh Porod won the B-Main with his sky blue Arrma Senton and advanced to participate in the A-Main.  Mike Karl and Keith Juliar led laps early, but Randy Kempen then seized the lead and held it through the finish, going one-for-one in Seas Three.  Josh Porod had a a super impressive debut and finished in second place, and Mike Karl stood on the podium in 3rd.  Anatole Wiering took 4th with his 4wd, Keith Juliar 5th, Shane Thomas 6th, Kyle Kallies 7th, Tyler Nystrom 8th, Dean Juliar 9th, Jason Stephenson 10th, Auden Palm 11th, Dallas Court 12th (DNS).
